Camila O’Gorman was born in Buenos Aires in 1825.
She belonged to an important family and she had many brothers and sisters. She was beautiful, she played the piano and she sang wonderfully. She also had a strong personality, like her grandmother. Her grandmother was known as “La Perichona ” and she was the lover of the viceroy Liniers.
At the age of 18, Camila met Ladislao Gutiérrez, the new priest of the church called “Del Socorro”. Ladislao was from Tucumán, and he was young. Camila and Ladislao, slowly but surely, fell in love. In 1847, they decided to ran away to Goya, Corrientes . They changed their names and married. They founded the first school in Goya in which they also taught.
The lovers were happy and they didn’t have a guilty conscience, because Ladislado had never meant to be a priest. Camila and Ladislao were discovered in 1848. They were put in prison and killed even though she was pregnant.
