Who was Camila O'Gorman?

Camila O’Gorman was born in Buenos Aires in 1825.
She belonged to an important family and she had many brothers and sisters. She was beautiful, she played the piano and she sang wonderfully. She also had a strong personality, like her grandmother. Her grandmother was known as “La Perichona” and she was the lover of the viceroy Liniers.

At the age of 18, Camila met Ladislao Gutiérrez, the new priest of the church called “Del Socorro”. Ladislao was from Tucumán, and he was young. Camila and Ladislao, slowly but surely, fell in love. In 1847, they decided to ran away to Goya, Corrientes. They changed their names and married. They founded the first school in Goya in which they also taught.

Camila’s family was really ashamed of her. Her father was very close to Juan Manuel de Rosas, the governor.
The lovers were happy and they didn’t have a guilty conscience, because Ladislado had never meant to be a priest. Camila and Ladislao were discovered in 1848. They were put in prison and killed even though she was pregnant.

Rut Marega. Journalist.

I was born in Reconquista 26 years ago.  When I was 18 I decided to study journalism at ‘Instituto Superior n 12’ in Santa Fe. I like reading, writing and talking to people.
Nowadays, I work at a radio called ‘Lt 10’. I try to make people familiar with the work of many artists from Santa Fe.

I don’t watch TV, but I certainly love the cinema.    Pedro Almodovar’s  films are my favourite ones, because they make you think a lot about different things! I also really like the music of these films. I specially like ‘Volver’, ‘Tacones Lejanos’, ‘Todo sobre mi madre’ and ‘Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios’
I can tell you many fun anecdotes related to the cinema. I fell asleep many times at the cinema, even  at BAFICI (Festival de cine independiente de Buenos Aires)
Before the film ‘El secreto de Sus Ojos’ won ‘The Osccar’, I interviewed a critic called Eduardo Antin.  He told me the film was horrible, I was really surprised to hear that!

Guillermo Pez. Journalist

Guillermo Pez was born in Santa Fe in 1972. He studied at UCSF.He knows a lot about cinema and rock and roll.  He works at “Radio Pandora” and he teaches at UCSF.

Interview.

Ma. Fernanda (MF):  Do you like watching films?

Guillermo Pez (GP) Yeah, for sure! I do love it. In fact, when I finished secondary school, I was about to study film making at ISCAA, but finally, I decided to study journalism.

MF: Which is your favourite film?

GP: Well, I can’t answer that question! I like so many films! I can tell you what I don’t like. I really hate Hollywood films. I prefer Argentinian or European films.

MF: So… I suppose you admire many film directors too!

GP: You’re right. I think that Emir Kusturica, Pablo Trapero, Woody Allen, Leonardo Favio and many others, are great film directors.

MF: I imagine you have many anecdotes related to the cinema. Can you share one?

GP: (laughter) When I was a little kid, I went to the cinema four times to watch “E.T.” I loved it!
I also remember that on a Sunday afternoon in 1998, I went to “Cinemark” to see an Iranian film called “La Manzana”. In the Screen next to ours, they were watching “La Máscara del Zorro” with Antonio Banderas as the main character. It was full of people and we could hear the sounds of the special effects. It was terrible!

MF: Thanks Guillermo! You have just shared a lot of interesting things with us.

GP: It’s been a pleasure!
